Hilario serves at NBC 10 as an anchor and reporter. He graduated from Emerson College in Boston in 1992 and started his television career as a director at WLVI-TV. Before joining the NBC 10 team, he worked as an anchor and managing editor for Metro News in Brockton, Massachusetts, and as a general assignment reporter for WLNE-TV.
Mario has lived in Rhode Island since 1996 and has become an active member of the community, volunteering his time with a variety of nonprofit organizations, including Spurwink RI, which provides services to adults and children with developmental disabilities. Mario is a member of the Alpha II Class of Leadership Rhode Island, an organization that brings together community leaders from across Southern New England to examine issues affecting Rhode Island and its future.
In addition to his daily anchoring and reporting duties, Mario has written and reported two half-hour specials on issues important to Southern New England residents. “Where Do We Live?” investigated the issues of homelessness and affordable housing in our community. “Breaking the Silence” examined the issue of domestic violence from the unique perspective of those who perpetrate the abuse. Mario received an Associated Press award for his work on the special “Where Do We Live?” and has been nominated for five Emmys. When Mario is not working, he enjoys working out and gardening. He also likes to dance, cook, and eat.
