Lily Collins Eating Disorder | Anorexia
Collins suffered from an eating disorder as a teenager, which she later revealed in her book, Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me. When the film was first released on Netflix, there was some debate about whether it would be triggering for those suffering from eating disorders.
Collins’ character Ellen in Netflix’s new anorexia film To the Bone (out Friday) has a compulsive habit of measuring her tiny arm. To ensure that her fingertips meet, the young woman wraps her thumb and middle finger around her barely-there bicep. They usually do — that’s how sickly she is — and show how small Collins chose to play.
Lily Collins To the Bone
Collins was cast in the lead role of Marti Noxon’s anorexia drama film To the Bone in March 2016. Ellen or Eli, a 20-year-old woman suffering from anorexia nervosa, is the protagonist of the film. On 22 January 2017, it debuted in competition at the Sundance Film Festival as a contender in the U.S. Dramatic Competition.
On July 14, 2017, Netflix released it worldwide. When the film was first released on Netflix, there was some debate about whether it would be triggering for those suffering from eating disorders. Another Netflix original show, 13 Reasons Why, was also accused of glamourizing suicide, which influenced this controversy. Despite the film’s controversial subject matter, Collins’ portrayal of Ellen was praised as “exemplary work from Lily Collins in the central role.”
“In a different film, Ellen’s sharp tongue might have made her an insufferable fount of wisecracking negativity,” wrote Justin Chang of the Los Angeles Times, “but Collins’ performance is subtler than that, and the script gives her ample opportunity to reveal the character’s more complicated, vulnerable edges.”
Lily Collins Audrey Hepburn
Collins co-starred with Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen Clementianna in Mirror Mirror, an adaptation of the fairytale Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, in 2012. Collins was described as follows by Robbie Collin of the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph: “She has an adorable, sensational, almost perfect face for the film; think Audrey Hepburn with Liam Gallagher’s brows.
Her smile is the epitome of cheeky.” Collins made her singing debut in the film, singing an English re-write of “I Believe (in Love).” Collins also appeared in Stuck in Love in 2012, alongside Jennifer Connelly, Logan Lerman, and Greg Kinnear.
Lily Collins Emily in Paris
Collins starred opposite Simon Pegg in Vaughn Stein’s thriller Inheritance in 2020, as well as Emily in Paris, a Netflix television series about a young American working in Paris. Collins received a second Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy for Emily in Paris.
In the same year, she starred in the critically acclaimed film Mank as Rita Alexander, an English transcriber for writer Herman J. Mankiewicz. Collins is set to appear in The Cradle, directed by Hope Dickinson Leach and starring opposite Jack O’Connell, as well as Gilded Rage, produced by Jake Gyllenhaal and directed by Charlie McDowell and starring Christoph Waltz and Bill Skarsgrd.
Lily Collins The Blind Side
Collins took on the role of Collins Tuohy, Michael’s adoptive younger sister. Later that year, Collins made her breakthrough as Collins Tuohy, the daughter of Leigh Anne Tuohy (Sandra Bullock’s character) in the film The Blind Side. The film was a box-office success, grossing more than $250 million and becoming the highest-grossing sports drama of all time.
“Big Mike” Michael Oher has spent time in foster care with various families as a result of his mother’s drug addiction. Despite his poor academic record, football coach Burt Cotton gets him admitted to Wingate Christian School. Sean Tuohy, Jr./”SJ,” a younger student, befriends Michael. Leigh Anne, SJ’s mother, is a strong-willed interior designer and the wife of wealthy businessman Sean Sr.
Collins may not be safe around Michael, according to Leigh Anne’s friends, but she criticizes them. Michael’s performance improves dramatically after that, and he is now good enough to play at the collegiate level.
He must, however, meet the minimum grade point average to be admitted, so the Tuohys hire a private tutor for him. Leigh Anne meets with coaches and negotiates on Michael’s behalf in order for him to be accepted to college. Michael ultimately selects Ole Miss over a number of other schools because “it’s where my family goes to school.”
Lily Collins Snow White
Collins appeared as Princess Snow White in Mirror Mirror, a 2012 American fantasy comedy film. Snow White decides to explore the kingdom ten years later and sneaks out. She meets Prince Andrew Alcott of the Kingdom of Valencia, who has been robbed by a band of Dwarves. Snow White and Alcott duel in the forest, each believing the other is in the wrong.
Clementianna enters her Mirror House, which houses her doppelganger, the Mirror Queen. She asks for a love potion in order to make the prince fall in love with her. The potion turns out to be a ‘puppy love’ potion, and the prince falls in love with her like a puppy dog. The Queen attacks Snow White and the Dwarves with two giant marionettes, but Snow White defeats them using dark magic.
Lily Collins Abduction
She co-starred in the 2011 action film Abduction with Taylor Lautner. Nathan Harper, an 18-year-old high school senior, lives in the Pittsburgh suburbs with his parents, Kevin and Mara. He suffers from recurring nightmares and is being treated by psychiatrist Dr. Geraldine “Geri” Bennett.
Nathan is working on a school research project about missing children with Karen Murphy. He realizes he resembles an age-progression photo of a missing child, Steven Price. On the train to a safe house, Nathan and Karen confess their feelings for each other, unaware that they are being followed by Kozlow’s right-hand man, who abducts Karen.
Karen attempts to contact her family, but her call is intercepted by Burton, the CIA, and Kozlow, forcing them to flee. Nathan considers giving Martin’s stolen data to Nathan, who believes it may contain Burton’s name on the list. Using fake IDs provided by their friend Gilly, the two board an Amtrak passenger train.
Nathan collaborates with Gilly to obtain tickets and obtains a gun with the intention of murdering Kozlow. When Kozlow arrives, he tells Nathan how he murdered his mother when Nathan was three years old because she refused to reveal Martin’s location.
Kozlow seizes Nathan’s gun and demands the list; Nathan flees, and Kozlow pursues, followed by CIA operatives. Martin calls Nathan and tells him to trust him and runs to the south parking lot.
