Lesley Stahl Career
Stahl serves at CBS, where she works for CBS’s 60 Minutes. In September 2019, she began her 30th season at 60 Minutes, joining the show as a reporter in March 1991. She is the author of two best-selling books, “Reporting Live,” about her job as White House Correspondent, and more recently, “Becoming Grandma.”

Her previous experience at 60 Minutes featured three interviews with Donald J. Trump, the first when he was a Republican candidate in 2016; the second was his first televised sit-down as President; and, most recently, one-on-one at the conclusion of his second year in office. Nancy Pelosi sent Stahl her first TV interview as Speaker of the House in 2007 and again as Speaker in 2019.
Stahl’s revealing interview with the current Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, was the subject of television headlines and political talk shows. She won Emmy for a disturbing 2015 study about how some police are hiring marginalized young people for risky work as sensitive informants. She received her 13th Emmy for her interview with the slain hostage widow, giving a rare glimpse into the legally unconstitutional method of negotiating with the terrorists.
In 2013, Stahl obtained unparalleled access to the U.S. Guantánamo Bay jail for a two-part series honored by Edward R. Murrow. In 2014, she won two Emmys, one for the Guantanamo series and the other for an eye-opening story about China’s massive real estate bubble. Later in 2014, she received the International Centre for Journalists’ Prize for Investigative Excellence from the Founders. Her uplifting feature, “Gospel for Teens,” won two Emmy Awards in 2012.
That same year, her whistleblower interview with the F-22 Raptor pilots offered the first official intimate account of the fighter’s oxygen system issues, prompting the Secretary of Defense to take action. Stahl’s interview with the former CIA head of Covert Services about the use of “enhanced interrogation techniques” on al-Qaeda agents sparked a nationwide controversy. Those are only a few highlights of the scope and range of stories she’s covered. Others include two stories from the Middle East in the fall of 2010, ‘Unfinished Business,’ about Iraq, and ‘The City of David,’ about the Israeli-Palestinian crisis, which was awarded by the Overseas Press Club for Best Interpretation on Foreign Relations.
