He left the sport with a 42-1-1 record and 32 knockouts. Lewis, like Muhammad Ali and Evander Holyfield before him, is one of only three boxers in history to have captured the heavyweight title three times. Lewis is involved in a number of corporate activities, philanthropic endeavors, and charitable endeavors. Lewis concluded that boxing was his favorite sport and committed to practicing solely in that sport. He rose to prominence as a dominant amateur boxer, winning the world amateur junior title in 1983. At the age of 18, he competed as a super heavyweight for Canada in the 1984 Summer Olympics but lost by decision in the quarter-finals to eventual gold medalist Tyrell Biggs of the United States. Lewis, a true athlete, resolved to return to the Olympic Games and win gold. He captured the gold medal in the SuperHeavyweight division at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. This was the beginning of Lewis’s illustrious boxing career.

He turned pro in 1989 and went on to win the European title in 1990 as well as the British Commonwealth Heavyweight title in 1992. In January 1993, he was formally proclaimed WBC Heavyweight Champion. Lewis and Evander Holyfield fought again in the ring in November 1999 after their previous match ended in a controversial draw. This time, Lewis beat Evander Holyfield to become the World’s Undisputed Heavyweight Champion, unifying the WBC, WBA, IBO, and IBF titles.
