Prior to joining CBS5|KPIX5, he worked at KOMO-TV in Seattle, Washington where he served as a reporter and show host from March 1987 to November 1989. Prior to that, he worked at KSBW-TV where he served as a reporter from November 1984 to March 1987 in San Jose, California. From November 1983 to October 1984, he worked at KMST-TV where he served as a reporter and editor. 

Since he started his journalism career, he has enclosed several stories including the Los Angeles riots, the Mexico City earthquake, and the OJ Simpson murder trial. He is also an active member of the California Chicano News Media Association as well as the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. 

Ramirez is also a recipient of several honors and awards including two Emmy Awards. He received one of his Emmys in 2003 for Best Daytime Newscast reporting. Furthermore, The Radio and Television News Directors Association awarded him two Best News Story awards in 1985 and 1986. Ramirez is also a three-time Emmy Nominee for breaking and investigative news.
