Benson is a sports director, anchor, and reporter at News on 6. After joining the station in November 2016, he began working as a sports mobile journalist. Before coming to News on 6, he was working at KAGS-TV in College Station, Texas as a Sports Director. He started his career in Champlin, Minn as a sports anchor and producer at QCTV. Benson created a 30-minute weekly show, QC Sports that featured local sports in the Northwest Suburbs of the Twin Cities.
For two years he spent in Bemidji, Minn at KAWE-TV, he served as a sports director. In the course of his time there, he covered high school sports and Bemidji State University athletics from central and northern Minnesota. In 2014 while still at KAWE-TV, he received a Minnesota AP Sports Reporting award.
For the majority of the next two years he spent in Minnesota, he covered Texas A&M athletics. He attended Gaylord College at the University of Oklahoma where he acquire his degree in Broadcast Journalism. In Addition, he played baseball at Dodge City Community College in Dodge City, Kan prior to attending OU.
