The twins entertained their family with improvised plays and acting, and they took part in nearly all of their high school drama productions, including Fiddler on the Roof. They received scholarships to the Alvin Ailey Dance School after graduating from Beach Channel High School in 1982. They went on to study acting at the Acting Studio with James Price, the studio’s founding artistic director, and Sanford Meisner’s protégé and personal friend. Lauren Vélez Oz
The film was nominated for four Independent Spirit Awards and won an award from the New York Film and Television Critics Association. Oz, an HBO prison drama, was another TV show in which she appeared. She portrayed Dr. Gloria Nathan, a prison doctor who oversees the prison hospital’s care of Oz’s inmates.
She has to deal with inmates and the state medical board on a regular basis. When O’Reily is diagnosed with breast cancer, she helps him, which leads to O’Reily falling in love with her and murdering her husband. Their interactions are tense, but she eventually accepts his love after he murders her rapist, Keenan. Though they are rarely able to act on his feelings, she eventually begins to return them.

Vélez appeared as Zoe Mercado, the tertiary villainess from Elementary episode 4.20: “Art Imitating Art” Elementary, an American procedural drama television series. She is a nefarious lab technician hired by Christa Pullman to work on the body of a woman named Marissa Kagan, who was revealed to be Christa’s illicit lover.

She later dated and married Eddie Torres, but was soon widowed after his assassination. Her mother works for the New York Police Department as a sergeant.
