Kirstin’s career began as a freelance assignment desk editor while attending the University of California, San Diego. Later on, after college, she made a move to Medford, Oregon where she was reporting and anchoring at KDRV.
Asides from anchoring the Morning Show, she also reported on some major events which include the deadly shooting at Umpqua Community College in 2015 and wildfires. Asides from this, she was given an exclusive local television tour of the Sugar Pine Mine which drew national attention during an armed standoff between the Bureau of Land Management and local members of the Josephine County Oath Keepers.
Back in the month of November 2015, she made a move to Orlando, Florida in order to report for the CBS affiliate WKMG. Later on, in the month of June 2016, her newsroom experienced a tragedy that would reshape the way every journalist in the state saw the city of Orlando. An armed gunman stormed the Pulse nightclub, killed 49 people, and left 53 more fighting for their lives. Later on, in the weeks that followed, her role shifted to a permanent seat behind the anchor desk.
O’Connor continued reporting for the afternoon and evening newscasts and developed her own weekly medical franchise. The fulfillment of a dream come true for Kirstin and her family returned to the Inland Northwest in the year 2022.
O’Connor believes that the future of journalism is digital and she is dedicated to being a leader in creating that space for credible news outlets. Away from work, she may be found with her daughter and nephews at local playgrounds, reading a good book at any corner coffee shop or brewery, and hiking Tubbs Hill in Coeur d’Alene
