Burkhardt serves at FOX Sports as the host of Major League Baseball studio coverage for FOX Sports and calls play-by-play for the network’s MLB and NFL coverage. He also hosts FOX Sports’ college basketball coverage from the studio. Burkhardt will be joined by veteran analyst and three-time Super Bowl champion Daryl “Moose” Johnston, as well as longtime reporter Pam Oliver, for the 2020 NFL season. Burkhardt also calls select games for FOX Sports Sun, the Tampa Bay Rays’ television home.
Since 2014, Burkhardt has served as the network’s lead studio host for the highly regarded MLB Postseason coverage. He began his career as an NFL play-by-play announcer for FOX Sports in 2013, sharing the booth with nine-time NFL Pro Bowler John Lynch before working alongside Charles Davis from 2017 to 2019.
Burkhardt was a radio personality before joining FOX Sports. In 2003, while working for a local car dealership, Burkhardt decided to give his dream of making a living as a sports broadcaster one last shot when he landed a part-time job on sports updates at WCBS-AM in New York City. Burkhardt had previously worked in local radio, including four years calling minor league baseball for an independent team. He left the car dealership to work for WFAN, the country’s largest sports station, where he provided 20/20 updates and contributed as a New York Jets reporter. Burkhardt has appeared as a celebrity endorser for Pine Belt Chevrolet, his former employer, in Eatontown, New Jersey, since breaking into sports broadcasting.
He worked for Compass Media before becoming the national announcer for the Dallas Cowboys from 2011 to 2012. He rose to prominence in 2007 as a SportsNet New York (SNY) field reporter for New York Mets television broadcasts. His responsibilities gradually grew to include play-by-play duties for select Spring Training and regular-season games, pre-and postgame shows, and hosting the off-season show “Mets Hot Stove.” Other responsibilities at SNY included hosting “SNY Spotlight” and reporting for “SportsNite.” Burkhardt also appeared as a guest on the SNY shows “Jets Extra Point” and “Daily News Live,” as well as on CN8 in Philadelphia’s nightly “Out of Bounds” program.
