Chesney is a songwriter and musician who was recommended Troy Tomlinson by a friend called Clay Bradley at Opryland Music Group by saying in 1992. For his audition, Chesney performed five songs and left the room with a songwriter’s contract. In April 1994, he released his album named In My Wildest Dreams under the independent Capricorn Records label. The album’s first two singles, “The Tin Man” and “Whatever It Takes” reached the lower regions of the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. Moreover, the album sold about 10,000 copies prior to Capricorn Records moving to Atlanta and closing its country music division in Nashville.

After Capricorn Records moved to Atlanta, Chesney moved on to work under BNA Records. In 1995, he released his second album which had three singles including “Fall in Love” and “Grandpa Told Me So” which were very successful. Still, in 1995, he co-wrote “When He Was My Age” a Confederate Railroad single from their album When and Where. In 1996, he debuted his third album called Me and You, and its first single, “Back In My Arms Again” was in the Top 40 on the country charts.

Chesney’s third album, Me and You was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In 1997, he released his fourth album called I Will Stand, its single, “She’s Got It All” was on the Billboard country charts for three weeks. The following year, his single “That’s Why I’m Here” became number 2 on the Billboard country charts. In 1999, he released his other album called Everywhere We Go with its two singles becoming number-one hits. Another two songs from this album “What I Need to Do” and “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy” peaked at numbers 11 and 8 on the country charts.

Chesney ended his contract with Sony Music Nashville in January 2018 and joined Warner Bros. Records Nashville. On July 27, 2018, he debuted his first album Warner Bros. Records called Songs for the Saints. In March 2020, he released his new album named Here and Now which features Tip of My Tongue” as the title track. The album was ranked Chesney’s 16th top 10 albums on the U.S. Billboard 200 and became number one for three consecutive days.
