Ken Smith Career
Smith serves as the 7, 8, and 9 am anchor and reporter at WRAL-TV based in Raleigh, North Carolina. Prior to joining WRAL-TV, he worked at WSFA 12 News from August 1995 to November 1998. From August 1993 to July 1995, he worked at KGW-TV based in Portland, Oregon where he served as a fill-in anchor and reporter. In 1982, he joined the University of South Florida, Tampa where he attained his Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication and Media Studies in 1986.

From January 1984 to May 1986, he volunteered as a mentor and tutor at International Student Club. He is also an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists, Alpha Phi Alpha, and Triangle Association of Black Journalists. Over the years, he has managed to win several awards and honors including the 2009 Mid-South Regional Emmy for Spot News.
Additionally, in 2008, he received Mid-South Regional Emmy for best weekend newscast and the 2012 National Emmy nomination for Breaking News. He also received Mid-South Regional Emmy for Breaking News in 2012 and Two Georgia Associated Press awards. Whenever he is not working, he enjoys spending his free time with his family and friends. He also enjoys music (jazz&calypso), reading, Special Olympics N.C. volunteer, hiking, playing tennis, and Wake County schools volunteer.
