Carlson is a reporter and anchor working for FOX 9 KMSP. She joined the station in January 2014 as the main evening anchor. Prior to joining the FOX 9 News team, she worked for Capitol Broadcasting as a Reporter and Anchor for 10 years and 7 months. After graduating from college, she got an opportunity to work at CBS affiliate WBTW in the Florence/Myrtle Beach market as her first job. She was hired as a weekend producer. In the course of her working time there, she covered the crash of flight TWA 800, Hurricanes Bertha and Fran. She later earned a position as a “one-man band” reporter/photographer, shooting and editing her own stories for daily newscasts.
From there, she headed to Kalamazoo, Michigan to work for WWMT-Channel 3. While there, she was sent to cover several major stories including the execution of Timothy McVeigh and the 2000 Presidential Election uncertainty in West Palm Beach, FL. She also began doing more investigative reporting and later was named weekday morning anchor. Carlson worked at WRAL-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina, was hired as a reporter then moved on to anchor weekend newscasts, and then the weekday morning show.
During her time in Raleigh, North Carolina, she covered big hurricanes including Hurricane Isabel which devastated the southern Outer Banks, the Hurricane’s Stanley Cup victory, Final Four wins, Federal Courts, and the Duke Lacrosse case. In addition to that, she was in control of the station’s coverage of the criminal case against presidential candidate John Edwards. After running the 2013 Boston Marathon
During her tenure at FOX 9, she has covered the Super Bowl in the Twin Cities, the Super Bowl in Houston, field-anchored live coverage after the explosion at Minnehaha Academy, and field-anchored FOX 9’s coverage from Paisley Park the morning Prince died. She also helped to break the news of P.J. Fleck’s hiring at the University of Minnesota with the help of her contacts from back in Kalamazoo. She has covered many tough and emotional assignments. Standing near Boylston Street after the bombings was one of the most emotional. Carlson is currently on the board of The Positive Coaching Alliance in Minnesota and has served on the board for Girls on the Run in both Kalamazoo and Raleigh.
