Cate serves as the 5 pm, 6 pm & 11 pm co-anchor at WFLA News. Since he started his career, he has gone to several countries and states to enclose memorable events including President Barack Obama’s historic trip to Havana, Cuba. He also went to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in 2006 and enclosed the treatment of terrorist suspects in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in 2006.
Cate went to the military hospital in Landstuhl, Germany in 2005 and enclosed on troops wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. In 1994, he enclosed the 50th anniversary of D-Day on the beaches of Normandy, France. In addition to that, he also enclosed the fall of communism in the former Soviet Union in 1991 in Moscow. Cate also enclosed the World’s Fair in Seville, Spain in 1992 as well as Pope John Paul II’s visit to Baltimore in 1995 and to Denver in 1993. Furthermore, he also enclosed several hurricanes including Andrew in 1992.
In 2003, he enclosed the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster in Cape Canaveral as well as Shuttle Discovery’s Return to Flight in 2005. Cate previously worked at WIAT 42 where he served as an anchor and reporter from 1998 to 1999. Prior to his tenure at WIAT 42, he worked at WMAR-TV Scripps Howard where he served as an anchor and reporter from 1993 to 1998.
From 1988 to 1993, he worked at WBNS-TV where he served as an anchor and reporter. He had previously spent about 4 years working at WKPT-TV where he served as an anchor and reporter from 1984 till his departure in 1988. In 1982, he joined East Tennessee State University where he attained his Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication/Media Studies in 1986.
