Kate Thornton is an American meteorologist who is currently working at WSYR. She forecasts the weather on The Morning News each weekday morning, noon, and on Bridge Street on NewsChannel 9 Storm. In addition, she joined the NewsChannel 9 Storm Team in January 2014. For more than ten years, she has been forecasting the weather in upstate New York. She forecasts weather from tropical storms with flooding rains, tornadoes, blizzards, sunny stretches, and of course lake effect snow. Saugerties in the Mid-Hudson Valley is her native home and this is also where her love for weather began.
She attended the University at Albany where she graduated proudly with a bachelor’s in Meteorology and minors in Geography, Business, and obtaining a GIS certificate in 2009.
Later on, she attended the New School of Radio and Television where she completed the broadcast journalism program with top honors. Furthermore, her broadcasting career began at WICZ-TV Fox40 in Binghamton, New York where she served as the weekend meteorologist and as a weekday multimedia journalist.
During her leisure time, she can be found spending time with her friends and family, running, and also fuels her second passion, volleyball as a local coach.
