Chaney serves at KFOR News 4 as a news anchor. She was hired behind the scenes as a weekend writer and assignment editor within a week. Joleen got her first on-air job as a morning anchor at KAUZ-TV in Wichita Falls, TX three months later, during her senior year of college at Cameron University, where she was involved in the Honor’s Program. Within a year, she was back anchoring and reporting for KFOR-TV. She worked at another local television station from June 2014 to June 2016, but returned to her KFOR family as the weekday 4 pm anchor, and was later promoted to the main evening anchor.
Chaney is a sixth-generation Oklahoman who was born in Fairview and raised in Rush Springs – and no, she was not the watermelon queen! She is a member of the Oklahoma Choctaw Tribe. Joleen has received Associated Press awards for “Best Reporter Portfolio” and the Society of Professional Journalists awards for criminal justice reporting, diversity reporting, and feature reporting. Chaney was nominated for a Heartland Emmy in 2010 for her breaking news tornado coverage. She has received numerous Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters awards. She was also a member of the KFOR-TV team that won multiple Emmys for its coverage of the Moore tornado in May 2013.
Chaney has served as a member of the inaugural class of in Oklahoma Magazine’s “30 under 30 NextGen,” which honored Oklahomans under the age of 30 for outstanding career achievement. She is currently an honorary board member of the Children’s Hospital and produces a biweekly segment called “A Heart for Kids” that highlights Oklahoma children who receive life-saving surgery thanks to an endowed program funded by The Children’s Hospital Foundation fundraising. As a baccalaureate and graduation speaker, Joleen travels the state speaking to women’s groups and high school students.
