Vause graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Arts in American history. Vause is a CNN anchor and correspondent who after previously serving as the network’s senior international correspondent in Beijing, returned to the network’s headquarters in Atlanta in October 2010 to anchor CNN International’s “World Report” news program.
Vause has also covered the world’s biggest stories from 30 countries, having been based in Beijing, Jerusalem, as well as Los Angeles. He has witnessed many of the world’s worst natural disasters, including earthquakes in Haiti and China, as well as bushfires, floods, and typhoons.

He was the last reporter in Gaza after Israel’s withdrawal in 2005. He was in Ramallah when Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat fell ill and died, and he was in Jerusalem when Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon suffered a stroke and became incapacitated.
Vause was present when Palestinian suicide bombers launched a concentrated campaign against Israel in 2002. He was also in the thick of the Israeli military campaign that followed, and he was in Bethlehem during the 39-day siege of the Church of the Nativity.

Vause was the only international reporter present when the leader of al Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Musab al Zarqawi, was killed by a US airstrike. He spent months traveling through Iraq following the US-led invasion and was one of three CNN International anchors based in Kuwait in the months preceding the invasion.
