John Roberts Radio Career
Roberts kickstarted his journalism career by working in radio before TV. While still in college, he worked at CFRE-FM based in Mississauga and later on joined CFOS in Owen Sound, Ontario in 1975 where he served as a news anchor and reporter. He left CFOS and joined CHYM based in Kitchener where he served as a DJ as well as a newsman. In 1977, he started working at CJBK in London, Ontario where he served as a reporter and anchor and later on joined CHUM where he served as the weekday evening disc jockey.

Roberts started his TV career in 1989 and began by working at WCIX(now WFOR-TV) based in Miami, Florida where he served as an anchor/reporter. He later on joined CTV based in Canada in September 1990 where he served as the co-host of the station’s morning show called Canada AM alongside Pamela Wallin and Deborah McGregor.

He left CTV and joined CBS New York in 1992 where he served as the anchor of the CBS Morning News alongside co-anchor Meredith Vieira. He also served as the substitute anchor and news reader for The Early Show and Harry Smith on CBS This Morning. Roberts, later on, started serving as the station’s 5 pm and 11 pm anchor from 1994 to 1995 based in New York, WCBS-TV. He then went back to CBS Networks in March 1995 where he served as the CBS Sunday Evening News anchor for about 11 years. In addition to this role, he also served as an anchor of the CBS Saturday Evening News from February 1999 till August 1999 when he became the station’s chief White House Correspondent. While still working at CBS, he won several awards and honors including three national Emmy awards and a Gracie award.
CNN
Roberts left CBS in February 2006 and joined CNN where he served as an anchor and reporter. While working at CNN, he went to Israel and enclosed the Israel/Hezbollah war which earned him a Headline Award for that coverage. He then went to Iraq in October 2006 and was among the first anchors to enclose the Iraq war. He also spent some time working as the Senior National Correspondent based in Washington. From 2007 to 2010, he served as the anchor of American Morning and also anchored Live from New York. On December 7, 2010, he left American Morning and started serving as a national correspondent based out of Atlanta.

He also went to North Korea-United States Summit in Hanoi, Vietnam in 2019 and provided live coverage.
