Morales serves as the Chief Meteorologist at NBC 6. He is also the founder and president of ClimaData Corporation since August 1991. Furthermore, he is also an Editorial fellow at the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists since September 2021. His tropical weather expertise and steady personality guided South Florida viewers through hurricanes Andrew, Irene, Katrina, Wilma, and, most recently, Hurricane Irma.

Morales received the John Coleman Broadcast Award at the National Tropical Weather Conference for his life-saving work during the 2017 season. From 1991 to 2002, he worked as the Chief Meteorologist for the Univision Network and its Miami station, WLTV channel 23. He was also the Chief Meteorologist for WSCV Telemundo 51 from 2003 to 2008. During his time there, he was the first Latino to fill in as a meteorologist on NBC’s Weekend Today Show, and he did so several times.

In 2009, John Morales was also named Chief Meteorologist for NBC’s Miami station WTVJ NBC-6, a position he holds to this day. Morales is also one of only a few weather forecasters who has been elected a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society (AMS). John received the 2007 AMS Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Advancement of Applied Meteorology, which could be considered his most important scientific honor.

Among his many accomplishments, John holds the AMS and National Weather Association Seals of Approval for Radio and TV weather casting, as well as the Broadcaster of the Year Award from both organizations. He is also a Certified Consulting Meteorologist and a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist, according to the American Meteorological Society.

Morales served as a disc jockey and sportscaster for the student-run radio station WVBR.
