John Goodman Weight Loss

Goodman was once known for his large frame, which weighed close to 400 pounds at one point (180 kg). By August 2010, he had lost 100 lb (45 kg) through an exercise and food journaling program. His new persona drew attention at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2015, as well as the BFI London Film Festival in October 2015.

Since Roseanne’s original run ended in 1997, the actor has significantly slimmed down—and it took more than a quick fix or crash diet to get there. John Goodman has always been known for his husky physique, whether you’ve seen him on Roseanne or in any of his numerous film roles (The Big Lebowski, The Flintstones, 10 Cloverfield Lane). However, sometime in the 2000s, he decided that his size was a health risk. He admitted to being “pushing 400 pounds… somewhere up around there” in a 2010 interview with David Letterman.

Goodman stated that his weight had previously yo-yoed and that he had no problem losing (and regaining) 60 pounds at a time. However, it was not the healthiest cycle. He also joked that his large frame was causing furniture to break due to friends and family pleading with him to “lighten up.”

John Goodman The Big Lebowski

Goodman appeared as Walter Sobchak in The Big Lebowski, a 1998 black comedy crime film. Jeffrey (“Big”) Lebowski, a wealthy philanthropist, hires The Dude (Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski) to deliver a ransom for his wife’s kidnapping.

The Dude meets Bunny, Big’s trophy wife, and her German nihlist friend Uli while delivering the ransom. They devise a plan to keep the ransom money by exchanging it for a briefcase full of Walter Sobchak’s dirty laundry. The kidnappers, however, take Walter’s laundry and steal The Dude and his bowling partners’ car. The Dude’s car is vandalized after homework, signed “Larry Sellers,” is discovered stuffed down the back seat.

Walter smashes a new sports car, believing it belongs to his friend Donny, only to discover that it belongs to Donny’s kidnapper. Big and a trio of German nihilists who identify themselves as the kidnappers confront the Dude. Maude reveals that her father has no personal wealth; the family fortune belonged to her late mother, who left him nothing.

John Goodman Roseanne

From 1988 to 1997, Goodman rose to prominence in the role of Dan Conner on the ABC sitcom Roseanne. On April 28, 2017, it was announced that a Roseanne revival was in the works and that Goodman, along with the majority of the original cast and some of the producers, would return for the limited series, which was being shopped around with ABC and Netflix as the frontrunners to land the show. On May 16, 2017, ABC confirmed that 8 episodes would air during the midseason in 2018. ABC canceled the revival after one season on May 29, 2018, following controversial remarks made by Barr on Twitter about Valerie Jarrett.

The following month, ABC ordered a ten-episode Roseanne spin-off called The Conners, starring the Roseanne cast but not Roseanne Barr. The second season of the show premiered on September 24, 2019. In 2019, Goodman portrayed Southern megachurch preacher and family patriarch Eli Gemstone on the HBO comedy The Righteous Gemstones, which was created and co-starred Danny McBride. Goodman accepted the role shortly after the revived Roseanne series was canceled and before its spin-off, The Conners was announced, which resulted in Goodman appearing on both shows.

John Goodman Flintstones

Goodman starred as Fred Flintstone in the film adaptation of The Flintstones. Cliff Vandercave and Sharon Stone intend to steal the company’s vast fortune, blame it on an employee, and flee. Fred Flintstone’s job and newfound wealth complicate his relationships with Wilma and the Rubbles. Cliff dupes Fred into firing the other employees, despite the objections of his office Dictabird. Cliff Slate refuses to fire Fred, but Cliff manipulates events to make it appear as if Fred stole the money. Wilma and Betty infiltrate Slate & Co. in order to obtain the Dictabird, the only witness who can clear Fred’s name.

Cliff activates the machine, causing them to stall as they attempt to rescue Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm. Cliff is rescued by Fred and the Dictabird from the quarry, where he was planning to betray Stone. Mr. Slate christens the substance “concrete” after his daughter Concretia and declares the stone age to be over. Fred declines the offer and instead requests that the employees be given two weeks paid leave as part of their salary.

John Goodman Arachnophobia

Goodman appeared as Delbert McClintock in a 1990 American comedy horror film Arachnophobia. An entomologist captures two members of an aggressive new prehistoric spider species. A fertile male of the same species bites bedridden American nature photographer Jerry Manley, who suffers a severe seizure and dies as a result of the venom. The spider gets out of the coffin, is picked up by a crow, and bites the bird. In Canaima, Atherton joins Ross, Chris, Milt, Sheriff Lloyd Parsons, and exterminator Delbert McClintock. Atherton explains that the spiders are soldiers sent to eliminate potential threats to the colony’s male leader. Ross fights the general while attempting to burn the second egg sac.
