Becker serves at WBIR as the weekday’s anchor at 5, 6, and 10News Nightbeat. Returning to the Gulf Coast after joining WBIR-TV in the summer of 2006, where he reported in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and field anchoring coverage on the one-year anniversary, was one of his first jobs.

A long-form story on a boy who lost his arm in a farming accident won multiple awards, including a Murrow and a Best in the West medallion for quality in journalism. John went to The Poynter Institute, which is a prestigious institution for working journalists. In 2000, he received the Tom McCall Award for newsroom leadership from his peers.
