Joe Lauria is an American award-winning meteorologist working as an evening news meteorologist for FOX4 each weeknight at 5, 6, 9, and 10 p.m. He previously worked at WCEE-TV in Mt. Vernon, Illinois where he served as a meteorologist.
Joe Lauria Career
Joe earned a bachelor’s degree in meteorology from St. Louis University in 1984. He serves as the evening meteorologist every weeknight at 5, 6, 9, and 10 p.m. for FOX 4. He started at the station in January 1995, but the weather has always been a big part of his life since he was a kid. Joe recalls being fascinated by clouds and snowstorms when he was 10 years old while growing up in New York. Winter remains his favorite weather season because of those hard-to-forecast snowstorms.
He was the Chief Meteorologist at KOSA-TV in Midland, Texas for six years. It was there that the Associated Press named him the best weathercaster in Texas for the year. He has also served as Chief Meteorologist at WAYK-TV in Orlando, FL, KFKF-FM in Kansas City, and WCEE-TV in Mt. Vernon, IL. He’s done local radio forecasts for KMBZ-AM and WHB-AM over the years.
Joe gives dozens of speeches and severe weather seminars for the young and old each year, in addition to his FOX 4 weather forecasts. Speaking to adults…he enjoys discussing how TV stations now cover bad weather…it has certainly changed a lot in the last ten years or so.
He served as President of the KC Chapter of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) in 2001-02, 2002-03, and 2014, and as Vice President from 2008-2013… in addition to being a member of the National Weather Association (NWA). Both organizations have given him their Seal of Approval for weather broadcasting excellence.
Lauria used to judge TV candidates nationwide in order for them to obtain this prestigious certification as a way of giving back to the weather community. He also received the AMS’s highest honor as a TV meteorologist when he earned the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation, which only 650 people have.

I did decide though that while I was on vacation…perhaps a few times to splurge on myself. Many may know my fondness for this restaurant. When they were leaving KC back in the mid-90s…I was in line on closing day to get one more fix. I know they’re in Columbia…but since these were on my way home after one of the best rounds of golf yet.”
