Joe Charlevoix is an American Meteorologist currently working for WPBN/WTOM TV since joining the station in the year 2002.
He began working as a weekend meteorologist at the station, and in the year 2005, he started working as a morning meteorologist. He switched to the evening shift in July 2018 up to date, whereby he forecasts weather at 5, 6, and 11 pm. Also, he steps in on WPBN/WTOM’s sister station, ABC 29&8. Charlevoix also forecasts the weather for the Fox FM stations that cover most of northern Michigan, WFDX-FM 92.5 Music Radio, and WFCX-FM 94.3.
Charlevoix’s passion for weather began at a young age. He started creating weather maps with crayons at the age of 3 or 4, and his eyes were drawn to the television meteorologists, particularly at a dual NBC/Fox-affiliated TV station in Marquette, WLUC TV6.
Charlevoix was involved in band, sports, and served as class president his final year at Norway High School. Joe spent his junior year of high school as an exchange student in Nordenham, Germany, on the North Sea, and toured extensively throughout Western Europe. Charlevoix went to Valparaiso University in Indiana after graduating from high school. His favorite college memories include his freshman year when Valparaiso advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA basketball tournament. He majored in Broadcast Meteorology in college and interned in Chicago with WGN-TV’s Chief Meteorologist Tom Skilling. Tom and Charlevoix are still buddies up to date. Charlevoix earned his bachelor’s degree in May 2001.
He obtained a job at ABC Affiliate WBKP/WBUP-TV in Marquette, Michigan as a morning news/weather producer and anchor, as well as a noon show meteorologist, shortly after graduation. Charlevoix also worked as a weathercaster for WKMJ-FM in Houghton, Michigan.
