Jerry Hayes is an American retired Emmy Award-winning Anchor and Reporter, known for having worked at WHNT in Huntsville, Alabama as a weekday evening anchor. He worked for the station from March 1979 to his retirement in March 2024.

He went to Tennessee State University where he attained his college degree. When it comes to his profession, Hayes recently served at WHNT News 19 as a weekday evening news co-anchor, appearing on the 4 and 6 PM newscasts, alongside Christine Killimayer.
Prior to joining WHNT, he spent some time as an intern at WTVF, the CBS affiliate in Nashville. He later on joined WHTV where he started off by serving as a reporter and later on as the weekend anchor. After several years, he began serving as the 6 and 10 main anchors in November 1983.
Since joining WHNT News 19, Hayes has enclosed several stories including the White House and so much more. He has also won quite a number of awards including nine Emmy Nominations, two Emmy Awards, and 12 Region Edward R. Murrow Awards for Best Sports Reporting. In 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2006, and 2005, he received the Associated Press Television Award for Best News Anchor based in Alabama.

Dr. Kathryn Cox discovered abnormalities, including a kidney mass alongside gallstones. Surgery removed the tumor, revealing early-stage kidney cancer. However, he underwent a major surgery to remove the cancer cells and he is now in good health.
