It was in the year 2012 that Vaughn was hospitalized with a bleeding ulcer and spent a couple of days in the intensive care unit (ICU). Unfortunately, things started being worse. It appeared that she had a massive heart attack. Vaughn was rushed into the catheterization laboratory, where tests showed that her heart was in distress, but her arteries were clear. Her doctor described her condition by saying she had a broken heart. She was told that the condition was known as “takotsubo” cardiomyopathy, also known as broken heart syndrome. She fitted the profile for the people most at risk. Vaughn however recovered with time, and she is now well.
