In the year 2020, he called Nexstar’s Missouri Capitol News Bureau a successful launch, where he was responsible for delivering day-to-day coverage of the key legislative issues faced by Missouri state. Inside the Missouri Capitol, KPLR and FOX 2 are the only TV stations with a permanent news bureau.
While in college, Bernthal worked for WSIE-FM as a news reporter for 2 years. There he anchored and filed reports of the local portion of NPR’s Morning Edition. Bernthal has worked on the board of directors of NCCJSTL – National Conference for Community and Justice of Metropolitan St. Louis. The organization helps in fighting racism, bias, and bigotry. Bernthal was honored multiple times by the St. Louis Journalism Review and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch for his outstanding reporting.
