JD Vance is an American author, conservative politician, and venture capitalist. He is also well known for his memoir Hillbilly Elegy, which attracted significant media attention during the 2016 election.

He announced his candidacy for the 2022 United States Senate election in Ohio on July 1, 2021, to succeed retiring U.S. Senator Rob Portman.

Vance attended Middletown High School which is a public high school in his hometown where he graduated proudly. Later on, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served in The Iraq War with the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing and performed public affairs activities.

Vance is the son of Donald Bowman and Bev Vance. Vance’s only sister, Lindsay, was born when his mother was nineteen years old. His mother and father divorced when Vance was a toddler.

Not long after, Vance was adopted by his mother’s third husband. Vance’s mother struggled with prescription pain medication which led to a heroin addiction throughout his childhood. She left behind a string of husbands and offered little stability. As a result, Vance and his sister were raised primarily by his grandparents.

Hillbilly Elegy is a Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis is a 2016 memoir. It involves the Appalachian values of his Kentucky family and their relation to the social problems of his hometown of Middletown, Ohio, where his mother’s parents moved when they were young.

In addition, it was published in June 2016. In the book, he writes about a family history of poverty and low-paying,  physical jobs that have since disappeared or worsened in their guarantees, and compares this life with his perspective after leaving it. 

The book was also filmed in 2020, as an American drama film starring

Amy Adams, Glenn Close, Gabriel Basso, Haley Bennett, Freida Pinto, Bo Hopkins, and Owen Asztalos. In addition, the film recalls a childhood where poverty was J.D.’s family tradition. The film is based on Vance’s upbringing in a Rust Belt town in Ohio, in a family from the hills of eastern Kentucky. 

JD Vance Trump

Vance publicly stated that he did not cast a vote for Trump in the 2016 election. In a contentious Republican primary that hinges on loyalty to Trump, Mandel for months has been on the attack against Vance. In 2016 during an interview with Charlie Rose, he stated that he has never been a Trump guy and has never liked him.

In addition, Vance also features a screenshot of a Vance tweet from October 2016 where he wrote, referring to Trump “My god what an idiot.”
