James Lofton is an American Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver and journalist serving as FOX5’s NFL analyst. He joined CBS Sports in May 2017 as an analyst for THE NFL ON CBS.
James Lofton Education – College
Lofton attended George Washington High School in Los Angeles, California, and played quarterback and safety there. Lofton attended Stanford University for his college football career. As a senior in 1977, he caught 57 passes for 1,010 yards and 14 touchdowns, earning him AP and NEA second-team All-American honors. Lofton was a member of the fraternity Theta Delta Chi and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering in 1978.

Lofton serves as an analyst for FOX 5’s NFL analyst. From 2009 to 2016, Lofton was the lead game analyst for Westwood One’s radio coverage of Sunday Night Football. He joined Westwood One in 2000 but left for seven years to coach with the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders before returning in 2009.
This season, he will call select Monday Night Football games for Westwood One as well as preseason games for the Green Bay Packers alongside Kevin Harlan. Lofton has previously worked as a broadcaster for CNN and NBC Sports.
Lofton, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2003, was the Green Bay Packers first-round pick in 1978, beginning a long career as an NFL wide receiver. He caught 764 passes for 14,004 yards in 16 seasons with Green Bay, the Los Angeles Raiders, the Buffalo Bills, the Los Angeles Rams, and the Philadelphia Eagles, which was the most in NFL history at the time of his retirement. Lofton caught 41 passes for 759 yards and eight touchdowns in 13 playoff games, including a seven-reception performance in Super Bowl XXVI.
