James Brown Biography
Brown serves at CBS as the CBS News Special Correspondent and the studio host of The James Brown Show, The NFL Today on CBS Sports, and Thursday Night Football on CBS Sports and NFL Network. He also serves as the former host of Fox Sports’ NFL pregame show Fox NFL Sunday for eleven years.
A three-time Emmy award-winning network announcer, Brown, who was named to the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame in August 2020, anchored the Super Bowl for a record nine times, including Super Bowl 53 on CBS. In 2010, SI.com voted Brown the Decade’s Best Studio Host.
Brown is a Special Correspondent to CBS News and contributes to shows such as “60 Minutes,” “CBS This Morning,” “CBS Evening News” and “48 Hours.” He is also a managing member of the 2019 Washington Nationals World Series Baseball Major League Winner. Brown’s past broadcast responsibilities include covering “Thursday Night Football” on CBS and the NFL Network, co-hosting “Fox NFL Sunday,” correspondent for “Real Sports” with Bryant Gumbel on HBO, and hosting a nationally syndicated radio program on Sporting News Radio. James’ first co-authored book, Position of a Lifetime: Reflections on Religion, Family and Significant Living, was published in 2009.
Of the multiple awards, Brown most recently won the 2016 Pete Rozelle Award from the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which honors “long-time exceptional contributions to radio and television in professional football” and the “Uncommon Award” from Tony Dungy for his “uncommon leadership through character and faith.”
Brown was recognized in 2010 as one of the “Faces of Black History” Brown, in Washington, D.C. A native of Harvard, he has a three-time All-Ivy basketball pick and is in the Harvard Basketball Hall of Fame. He is active with a variety of charitable organizations, including GENYOUth, a member of the Board of Trustees, the Ron & Joy Paul Kidney Center at George Washington University, and the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Brown is now an ordained pastor and is regularly interested in speaking at churches and conventions around the world.
