Rascon attended The Woodlands High School where after graduation, he joined Brigham Young University and pursued broadcast journalism. He got internships at KUTV News, the Salt Lake Tribune, and in Washington D.C at the Kosovo Embassy.
It was shortly after leaders of the Balkan country declared independence. In two years’ time, he moved to Uruguay as a missionary for his church, which was after his freshman year. While there, he learned Spanish.

During his time in the states, he covered natural disasters such as mass shootings in California, Colorado, Texas, and Florida, deadly tornado outbreaks in the Midwest, mass migration from Syria, and the 2016 Presidential campaign.
Furthermore, Rascon also reported the 2010 Haiti earthquake, California and Washington State wildfires, volcanic eruptions in Hawaii, Hurricane Harvey, dozens of other storms, and gang violence in El Salvador. Conventions and inaugurations, the X Games and the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, infamous cartel criminal trials in El Paso, and migrant caravans were also his assignments. Before joining ABC13, he served at KPRC, KFOX-14, NBC News, and NBCLA as a correspondent based in Dallas and Los Angeles.
