Long serves as a pregame and halftime analyst for THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL in 2018. He has worked as a studio analyst for FOX NFL SUNDAY, America’s No. 1 pregame show, since its 1994 inception. Long, a Pro Football Hall of Famer has been a fixture on FOX NFL SUNDAY since he retired from the Oakland Raiders after a 13-year NFL career in 1993.

Long is one of the country’s most well-known NFL analysts, having won a Sports Emmy Award for Outstanding Studio Analyst in 1997 and receiving a record-breaking 10 consecutive nominations in the same category (1997-2006). In April 2019, FOX NFL SUNDAY was inducted into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame. Long’s ongoing connections to the NFL add a unique perspective to his analysis, with two sons simultaneously playing in the NFL (Kyle recently retired) and a third in the Oakland Raiders’ front office.

Long joined the Raiders in 1981 as a second-round draft pick out of Villanova (48th overall) and went on to become one of the best defensive linemen in NFL history. His size, strength, and explosive quickness, combined with his versatility (he played all five defensive line positions), contributed to the definition of his era. Long was named to eight Pro Bowls, twice named NFL Lineman of the Year by the NFL Alumni Association, and co-Defensive Player of the Year in 1985 with Hall of Famer Andre Tippett. He also led the Raiders to a Super Bowl XVIII victory over the Washington Redskins in 1983.

Long was one of two defensive ends named to the 1980s All-Decade Team, along with Reggie White. He also announced his retirement in 1993 and played his final game at the Pro Bowl in Hawaii in January 1994. In August 2000, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, capping off a remarkable career.
