Tuchman serves as a staff correspondent for Anderson Cooper 360 at CNN. Tuchman has covered some of the most important stories of our time during his time at CNN. He arrived in Japan the morning after the devastating earthquake and tsunami and reported from the hardest-hit towns on the country’s northeast coast. He also spent months in Haiti covering the earthquake, which killed over 300,000 people. His live reports from the rubble the morning after the earthquake astounded viewers all over the world, who had no way of knowing the magnitude of the devastation until then. Tuchman was in Copiapo, Chile, between the two quakes, covering the rescue of the 33 Chile miners who had become trapped underground.
He broadcast live from the rescue site as the miners were triumphantly rescued. Tuchman was one of the few international reporters who were able to travel to Iceland earlier in 2010 to report firsthand on the volcanic eruption that forced the cancellation of thousands of flights around the world. Tuchman took a helicopter up to the erupting Eyjafjallajokull volcano. The video, shot from only a few hundred yards to the west (the winds were blowing east), gave viewers an incredible view of the eruption’s power. He also reported for the documentary What the Pope Knew for a portion of 2010.
Tuchman has covered every presidential election in the United States during his time with CNN. Tuchman was one of only a few journalists allowed into a coal mine during a search and rescue operation in 2007. He has also covered the FLDS, a polygamist cult, and child sexual abuse within the sect. He was nominated for two Emmy Awards in 2011 for his coverage of the Haiti earthquake.
Tuchman began reporting from Ground Zero in New York City the day after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, providing constant updates. The coverage of the Day After 9/11, the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster, the D.C.-area sniper case, and the anthrax scare. Tuchman spent five years as an anchor and reporter at WPEC-TV in West Palm Beach, Florida, a CBS affiliate. Tuchman graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Science in broadcast journalism. He previously worked for WBOC-TV in Salisbury, Maryland, and WTVE in New York.
