Gary Lezak is an American Meteorologist currently working for KSHB-TV since joining the station in the year 1992. He currently serves as Chief Meteorologist at the station. He got the promotion to Chief Meteorologist in the year 1999.
Lezak fostered an enthusiasm for the weather as he took in his first words. Experiencing childhood in Southern California, mists and downpours intrigued him, and his interest started around 5 years old. After secondary school, Lezak went to the University of Oklahoma to change his pastime into a profession. In the year 1985, he got a couple of breaks, graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology, and began what might turn into a fruitful telecom vocation.

Lezak’s greatest difficulty in life came in the year 1999 when he was diagnosed with cancer. It was an extremely rare type of sarcoma known as extra-skeletal osteogenic sarcoma. In the United States, just 6 persons are diagnosed with the same type of cancer each year. Because the cancer was found to be exceedingly aggressive, the doctors recommended that Lezak undergo rigorous chemotherapy to ensure that it was eradicated from his body. Before chemotherapy treatments could begin, 2 procedures to remove the malignancy had to be conducted. Lezak has been cancer-free since the year 2000 and rejoices every day! When he accompanies Sunny the Weather Dog to his public appearances, he shares his cancer experience as well as his passion for the weather.
Lezak realized that weather patterns were cycling in the 1980s and that this new technology could be used to provide accurate weather forecasts. Gary is now an author of scientific discovery after a peer-reviewed publication was published in the year 2018. Also, he is the author of the lovely children’s story “It’s A Sunny Life.”
During his leisure, you can find him working on his body fitness, or on his couch watching, as well as rooting for his favorite sports teams, Sporting KC, the Royals, and the Chiefs. Also, he likes spending his free time with his 4 cute dogs, Windy, Breezy, Jamie, and Stormy. Lezak has been known to share broadcast appointments with his notable dogs. Windy, the Weather Dog was aired on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in the year 2000, and Stormy, Sunny, and Breezy have proceeded with the long custom of Lezak having dogs share some time on the news set every Friday.
