Heumann has 39 years of expertise in radio and television broadcasting, all of which he has accumulated in Michigan. Between the years 1982 and 1984, he worked as a Weekend Sports Anchor for WILX-TV, an NBC-affiliated television station in Onondaga. From 1984 to 1987, he worked for WJRT-TV, an ABC-affiliated television station in Flint, where he held the same duties as at WILX. He worked at WJBK-TV, a Fox-owned and managed television station in Detroit, from 1987 until 1992, anchoring weekend newscasts and reporting sports. He worked as a sports reporter for an NBC-affiliated television station in Detroit, WDIV-TV (from 1992 to 2000). In the year 2000, he joined WXYZ-TV in Detroit, where he worked as a sports anchor/reporter. Heumann worked as the sports director of WLNS-TV in Lansing from 2003 to 2019. He joined Fox Sports Detroit as a freelance producer in the year 2020.

Other achievements include being inducted into the Central Michigan University Journalism Hall of Fame in the year 2018 and running the Tiger Stadium scoreboard for seven years in the 1980s’
