He began his career at NBC Bay Area as a weather segments producer on a freelance basis. Later he worked with 101 Freeway in the Monterey Bay area and also served as a full-time meteorologist in Billings, Montana. While there, he reported Arctic outbreaks with temperatures 20 to 30 degrees below zero, 100+ degree heatwaves, and tornadoes. From there he moved to the plains of North Dakota, he covered more extreme weather.
During his free time, he likes spending quality time with his family, hanging out with his wife and daughters, as well friends. In addition, Furer also enjoys was surfing and skiing. One of his best experiences is when he stayed at home with his children as a stay-at-home dad for his two young daughters for four years.
