Tarantal serves at WCVB as a co-anchor of the 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM newscasts. She held the position of evening news anchor on July 14, 2021. Previously, she was anchoring WCVB’s Midday news at noon. Tarantal began as a news reporter/anchor at WCVB.
Tarantal also works as a contributing reporter for Chronicle, WCVB’s award-winning local news magazine. She joins WCVB from News 4 New York, NBC’s flagship station in New York City, where she was a primary fill-in co-anchor for WNBC’s weekday morning newscast, “Today in New York.”
She has covered major stories such as Pope John Paul II’s death and Pope Benedict’s election, as well as hours of coverage during Superstorm Sandy and the tragic shootings in Newtown, Connecticut. Tarantal began her career as a general assignment reporter for News 4 New York in December 2007.
She worked as a general assignment manager before joining NBC4. Tarantal began her career in October 2005 as a general assignment reporter at WVIT-TV in Hartford, Connecticut. She began her career as a general assignment reporter at News 12 in the Bronx.
While there, she rose through the ranks to become the anchor of the station’s weekday morning newscast. Tarantal has also worked as a production assistant at Boston’s WHDH-TV. Tarantal worked as a paralegal for the Boston Office of the Attorney General before starting her career in broadcasting. Erika graduated with a bachelor’s degree in government from Connecticut College.
