She began her career as an on-air bilingual meteorologist with the Weather Company in Boston, forecasting for various locations across the country. Covering cities from coast to coast gave her a thorough understanding of the country’s weather – droughts in the west, blizzards in the northeast, tornado outbreaks in the Midwest, and hurricanes on the East Coast.
Erika began her career in local news as a freelance meteorologist at WCSH in Portland, Maine. Erika’s interest in weather can be traced back to 1992 when Hurricane Andrew slammed into South Florida. While her father was busy boarding up their Hialeah home, she begged him to leave a small opening in one of the windows so she could feel the full force of the storm. Erika also decided to make it her career mission to warn people of impending natural disasters after witnessing the devastating aftermath.
Erika returned home to South Florida in 2013, where she worked as a weekend meteorologist for NBC6. She then spent a year as a freelance meteorologist in South Florida before joining the 7 News Weather Team. She is honored to be able to work in her hometown as part of the 7 News Weather Team, and she welcomes any opportunities to work with local charities and organizations to give back to the same community that has given her so much.
