Eric Brill Career
Brill works for KMVT News serving the station as a Chief Meteorologist. He states that his journey to Southern Idaho has not been an interesting one. After his graduation, he did some freelance work on Long Island which was before a full-time job in Bismarck, North Dakota.
During his time at KXMB News, he was able to experience wind chill values which were below -50° calling tornado warnings before working for the National Weather Service. Aside from this, he did some reporting during his time in the Dakotas and wanted to focus on the weather more than anything else.
As a result of his desire to cover mainly weather, he made a move to Beaumont, Texas in the month of June 2016. There, he was working for KJAC/KBMT News. A chance to cover tropical weather is something that intrigued him and he was able to do this in the month of August 2017.
After Hurricane Harvey made landfall about 200 miles away from Beaumont, the storm wouldn’t go anywhere and it continued dumping tremendous amounts of rain within Southeast Texas. After all this was said and done, about a mile and a half from his apartment, there was a new record rainfall for a tropical system that was recorded in the history of the United States.
During this time, 60.58 inches of rain fell within the span of a week. He states that it would take Twin Falls more than six years in order to get that much rain on average. During the time when Harvey was ongoing, he had many sleepless nights of nonstop coverage which included two shifts of being on air for about 18 hours straight.
In addition to Harvey, he covered multiple severe weather/tornado outbreaks and historical snow events(for Southeast Texas standards). Aside from this, he states that he was able to learn about the challenges of forecasting near the Gulf of Mexico.
In his free time, he enjoys exploring and seeing what the given area he lives in has to offer. Aside from this, he states that he was looking forward to checking out all of the parks and falls that the region has to offer. During his free time, one may find him on the slopes trying to ski.
