Emily Spain is an American Emmy award-winning anchor who is working at KOMU. She serves as the co-anchor of KOMU 8 News which airs at 5, 6, 9, and 10 alongside Jim Riek.
Emily Spain Career
She attended the Missouri School of Journalism where she graduated proudly. When she joined the KOMU news team in 2012, she served as a morning anchor and later left the station in 2014, in 2017, she rejoined the station’s news team.
Previously, she resided in North Carolina where she worked at WFMY News 2 for a period of three years serving as a multimedia journalist. In addition, she was also a videographer for Duke Health She is passionate about uncovering the truth, holding the powerful accountable, and giving all sides of the story a voice.
She began her own EmVP series recognizing the most valuable people in the community. For her outstanding anchoring and reporting skills, she has been recognized by; the Society of Professional Journalists, the Kansas City Press Club, and the Missouri Broadcasters Association.
She also cherishes some of her stories including; a baby girl’s journey to getting Cochlear implants to repair hearing loss, a North Carolina sheriff who claimed the Department of Justice targeted him for alleged discrimination, and wall-to-wall coverage of the South Carolina floods. During her leisure time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, getting outdoors, listening to music, and watching football.
