Before his tenure at WPLG, he had spent about 5 years working at WPVI-TV where he served as a news reporter and anchor based in Philadelphia. From 1980 to 1983, he worked at WTVJ-TV where he served as a news reporter as well as an anchor. He had previously spent about 2 years working at The Miami News where he served as a news reporter.
Rodriguez has also won several awards including four Edward R. Murrow Awards and two Emmy Awards for excellence in journalism. Miami New Times tagged him as Best News Anchor, as well as Ocean Drive Magazine, tagged him as one of South Florida’s Sharp-Dressed Men. Rodriguez was also honored with a Silver Circle Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Rodriguez went to Cuba in 2016 and enclosed Fidel Castro’s death. Some of the stories he has enclosed include Death Row for the execution of a convicted killer and the Vatican on the Pope’s health. He also enclosed Hurricane Andrew, the invasion of Panama, elections in Nicaragua and Venezuela, the Mexico City earthquake, and political conventions.
