Eckhardt was working on a renovation series called Windy City Rehab alongside Alison Victoria who is an interior designer. The series premiered on January 1, 2019, and mainly renovated city-based homes including apartments as well as townhomes. However, the show’s producer contracted Covid-19 leading to delayed production of the second season. The second season finally premiered on September 15, 2020. Eckhardt filed a lawsuit against HGTV and all the officials running the show for allegedly causing him emotional distress and embezzling money from most of the past projects during the series’ second season. Donovan filed for this lawsuit after he was fired from Windy City Rehab in 2019. However, Cook County Judge Patricia O’Brien Sheahan dismissed the lawsuit in April 2022. Donovan’s lawyer later on filed for an appeal leaving a lot of Donovan’s fans questioning his integrity. In addition to that, Eckhardt publicized that he suffered several social media attacks which lead to him getting depressed and being diagnosed with anxiety.
