Don Ford Career and Education
Ford is a proud graduate of Del Mar College, where he spent 2 years (his field of study is unknown). When it comes to his profession, Ford recently served as a multimedia journalist and reporter at KPIX 5. In these roles, he was in charge of writing, shooting, and editing all of his own stories. Prior to this role, he served KPIX as a photojournalist (from August 2005 to January 2011), and as a news operations manager (from February 2001 to August 2005).
Prior to joining KPIX 5/CBS 5, he worked at KRON-TV where he served as a news photographer, DSNG, and Editor from 1981 to 2001. During his tenure at KRON-TV, he was in charge of demonstrating positive interpersonal relationships with all producers, reporters, as well as assignment editors. Before joining KRON-TV, he worked at KXTV where he served as a news photojournalist from July 1980 to December 1980.
Ford had previously spent about 9 months working at KOVR where he served as a news photojournalist from October 1979 to June 1980. He started his journalism career at KZTV in Corpus Christi, Texas where he served as a photographer and reporter. After college, he proceeded to work and live in Venezuela. While in Venezuela, he worked at Reynolds Aluminium’s Montaplan S.A. where he served as an assistant project planner.
Apart from his career as a journalist, he is also a photographer on his own and has received several awards from the Northern California Bay Area Press Photographers Association. Furthermore, he is also a twenty-time Emmy nominee and four Emmy Award winners. In addition to that, he was part of a team that won a National Emmy Award for their Breaking News coverage of the Oakland Riots following the shooting of Oscar Grant by BART Police in September 2010.
Since he started his journalism career, he has enclosed several stories including the Contra/Sandinista Civil War in Nicaragua, the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, and the beginnings of the first Gulf War in the Middle East. Additionally, he was also the very first photographer into the San Bruno Pipeline explosion crater. Away from work, Ford also loves to spend some time as a volunteer as an assistant Scoutmaster to a large East Bay Troop.
