Dominic Brown is an American Emmy award-winning Chief Meteorologist at WIS-TV News 10. He started working at the station in June 2017 being the first black chief meteorologist for the station. In addition, he is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist from the American Meteorological Society.

Brown studied Geosciences/Broadcast Meteorology at Mississippi State University then graduated with a Master of Science degree in 2007. During his time at MSU, he was a teaching assistant in the Department of Communication after he had graduated. Before that, he attended Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, the University of Georgia where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Journalism/Broadcast News. While at UGA, he was elected as the first president of the Grady Ambassadors, worked as an ambassador and host for the journalism school and also a team of dynamic student leaders.

Brown is the Chief Meteorologist at WIS-TV News 10. During his tenure, he has covered several important events impacting the Palmetto State, including Hurricane Florence, Hurricane Dorian in 2019, Hurricane Michael in 2018 and Hurricane Irma in 2017. Brown has also tracked several severe storms, namely the various tornadoes that touched down in September 2020 from Hurricane Sally’s remnants as well as the deadly tornado outbreak in South Carolina on April 13, 2020.
Still, at WIS, he guided viewers in August 2017, through the Total Solar Eclipse while the moon’s shadow engraved its way through Columbia, SC. After producing a unique on-air broadcast concerning the eclipse, Brown and his workmates earned an Emmy nomination. Afterward, he was nominated twice for the Emmys in 2019 because of his local coverage of severe storms in the Midlands and the other for coverage of Tropical Storm Florence.
Previously, he started his career at WCTI-TV in 2008. Brown was the first black meteorologist in the station’s history. Later he joined WTKR-TV spending half a decade as a meteorologist, reporter and anchor at the CBS affiliate in Hampton Roads, VA. While Brown was still in Virginia for almost half a decade, he worked as an AMS DataStreme Local Implementation Team Member, helping a local professor with online weather courses offered to K-12 teachers. While in college, he had a news internship with WSB-TV in Atlanta in Summer 2004 before moving to New York City in Summer 2006 for an internship with WCBS-TV.
Furthermore, he is a member of several organizations including, the Columbia Urban League Young Professionals, advisory board member of the Downtown Columbia YMCA, the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc and the Southeast Chapter of NATAS. Brown spends his leisure time with his family, fraternity brothers, friends, godchildren, cheering on his Georgia Bulldogs and his Mississippi State Bulldogs, watching sports, working out and going to the movies
