In 2019, she spent much of her time reporting on special and off-year elections in states across the United States.

Gallagher has led the network’s coverage of election fraud in the Ninth Congressional District in North Carolina. She has spent time in the Bahamas, where she covered the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Dorian. She has reported on the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Gallagher resided in Florida for one month, where she embedded with the students and provided live coverage from a bus while caravanning from Parkland to the state capital for the demonstration of “March for our Lives”.

Gallagher was among the few reporters to gain access to the detention facilities of the government in the year 2018, where families were held after being separated at the United States-Mexico border. She also spent a couple of weeks assisting families track down their families and friends after being apprehended during historic ICE raids of chicken processing plants in Mississippi in 2019. Gallagher has covered numerous national disasters such as Hurricanes Michael and Florence. She was also part of CNN’s team coverage of the hurricane in the year 2017, which was nominated for an Emmy Award. 

She has worked as a National Security Correspondent based in Washington, D.C., where she covered the fight against ISIS and other defense strategies, and did investigations into Russia’s meddling in the United States elections in 2016. Gallagher has also covered police-involved shootings as well as the protests that followed; funerals of Fidel Castro (Cuban President) and Muhammad Ali (boxing legend), and the Pulse Nightclub massacre in Orlando.
