Blevins attended the University of Oklahoma and in 1978 he graduated with a degree in journalism. He played basketball while at Oklahoma University and is the last player in over 60 years to have lettered in both basketball and football in the same season at the school. Blevins was a quarterback at Oklahoma University and played on national championship teams in 1974 and 1975. Furthermore, played on four Big 8 Championship teams from 1974 to 1977.

Blevins is a two-time Emmy Award-winning sports director at News on 6. He joined the News on 6 sports team in 1997. Blevins acquired the sports director position in 2001. He has over three decades of experience in the state of Oklahoma.

The Sportscasters Association and National Sportswriters have named him Oklahoma Sportscaster of the Year eight times. In 2014, he was honored with a Distinguished Alumni Award from the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communications by the University of Oklahoma. He also received Bob Hersom Award as a March of Dimes Sports Headliner for his decades of excellence in journalism.

The Society of Professional Oklahoma Pro Chapter honored him with multiple first-place honors for TV Sports Reporting. In addition, the Oklahoma Associated Press Broadcasters also awarded him with multiple first-place honors for Sportscast and News Excellence.

He received Jay Meyer Award (given to the top scholar-athlete at OU) in 1975. The Sports Magazine voted him as one of America’s 10 best-dressed men in sports. For over two decades now, he has announced college basketball and football games including 14 years for CBS, ABC, and ESPN. He has hosted coaches’ TV and radio shows for recognizable figures since the beginning of 1985. They include but are not limited to Bob Stoops, Eddie Sutton, Jerry Jones, Barry Switzer, and presently for OU Head Coach Lincoln Riley.
