David Ortiz Career
Ortiz debuted in Major League Baseball in 1992 with the Seattle Mariners Minor League affiliate, where he quickly established himself as one of the best hitters. In 1996, he was traded to the Minnesota Twins, where he made his Major League debut in 1997. Ortiz was acquired by the Boston Red Sox after six seasons in Minnesota.
Ortiz rose to prominence in “Beantown” as one of the game’s most feared hitters. During the Red Sox’s postseason run in 2004, the designated hitter was crucial in defeating the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series, putting an end to any superstition about the “Curse of the Bambino.”

Inspired by a visit to the Dominican Republic’s CEDIMAT Hospital, Ortiz established the David Ortiz Children’s Fund in 2007 to help children who cannot afford critical cardiac services. To date, the fund has raised millions of dollars for the cause, which has allowed it to build hospital wings, provide surgeries, and do other things.
