David Jason Muir is an American award-winning journalist working for ABC News serving as an anchor. He has been working for ABC News since August 2003.

Muir attended Onondaga Central High School where he graduated in May 1991. Later on, he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from Ithaca College in May 1995. Additionally, he spent almost a whole semester at Georgetown University at the Fund for American Studies at the Institute on Political Journalism. Muir started working for WTVH in Syracuse, New York as an intern when he was still a high school student. He officially started working for the station in 1994 whereby he was serving as a reporter and anchor. While still at WTVH, he made a report in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Gaza, and Israel after the assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in 1995.
Due to this coverage, Muir was awarded and honored by the Radio-Television News Directors Association. He was also honored by The Associated Press for Best Television Interview and Best Enterprise Reporting. He was also recognized by The Syracuse Press Club and was tagged the anchor of the ‘Best Local Newscast.’ In 2000, he announced that he would be leaving the station for WCVB.

Muir started working for WCVB, Boston in 2000 and started off by serving as a reporter as well as an anchor. While at WCVB, he managed to win the regional Edward R. Murrow Award due to his investigative reporting. He was also awarded Associated Press honors as well as the National Headliner Award for tracing the path of the hijackers involved in the attacks that took part on September 11, 2001. Furthermore, he was also honored by The Associated Press for his unquestionable skills and talent in journalism. In 2003, Muir announced that he would be leaving the station for ABC News.

Muir covered the humanitarian crisis that was taking place in New Orleans in 2005 and hence was not able to cover Hurricane Katrina. He also did a special report on the war between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006 which was from the Israel-Lebanon border. He also enclosed the Hamas coup in 2007, whereby he reported inside the Gaza Strip. In that same year in October, he went to Peru to enclose the most destructive earthquake to hit that country in more than two decades.

That same year, he went to Tahrir Square and reported on the political revolution in Egypt.
In 2013, Muir went to Iran and shared a report leading up to the nuclear talk. Additionally, he was the first anchor/reporter from the west to report live from Mogadishu, Somalia. In June 2014, it was publicized by ABC News that he would be the anchor and managing editor of ABC World News. He also started serving as the lead anchor of breaking news and special event coverage for ABC News succeeding George Stephanopoulos in 2021.
