Johnson serves at WPXI-TV as the co-anchor of Channel 11 News at 5 with Peggy Finnegan and co-anchor of Channel News at 6 and 11@11 with Lisa Sylvester. At 7 p.m., he hosts the News on PCNC. David and Peggy are the longest-serving anchor couple in Pittsburgh television history.
Further, they were named Broadcasters of the Year by the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters in 2016, making them the first anchor coupled to receive such an honor. They also received the President’s Award for career achievement in journalism from the Western Pennsylvania Press Club in 2015.
Joining WPXI, Johnson was from Atlanta. He was the anchor of the noon news and contributed to the 6 p.m. news. In 1989, he was promoted to evening news anchor. He grew up near Daytona Beach, Florida, and was born in Jacksonville, Florida.
David began his career in television while studying for a Bachelor of Science in Broadcasting at the University of Florida. Gainesville, Jacksonville, Chattanooga, Orlando, and Atlanta are among the cities where he has worked on the air.
David’s work at WPXI has earned him an Emmy Award, as well as a number of Golden Quills from the Pittsburgh Press Club and other regional and local honors.
