When he was about 11 years old, his family moved to Dayton, Ohio where his father became the pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He was raised alongside his three siblings who he manages to keep information about away from the limelight. The year 1953 saw the family make the move to Cedarville, Ohio when his father became the new president of Cedarville College( now known as Cedarville University).

Jeremiah attended Cedarville College where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in the year 1963. He then went on to receive a Master’s Degree in Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary(1967). David also completed additional graduate work at Grace Seminary(1972). He was also presented with an honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree by Cedarville in the year 1981.

Jeremiah is the Senior Pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church and is the founder of Turning Point Radio and Television ministries. Back in the year 1969, he founded Blackhawk Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He also founded Blackhawk Christian School in 1973.
In the same year, he developed and launched The Bible Hour after gaining experience with using mass media in order to share the Gospel. During the 12 years he was a senior pastor at Blackhawk, the congregation size grew from seven families to 1,300 members.
Back in the year 1981, his family, which included about four children, moved to Southern California and he succeeded Tim LaHaye as a senior pastor at Scott Memorial Baptist Church. This church is now known as Shadow Mountain Community Church.
His leadership of the church led it to become affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention and expand to nine satellite locations which include Hispanic and Arabic congregations. The church’s main campus has become home to the Southern California Seminary and Christian Unified Schools of San Diego, a K-12 Christian school district.
Later on, in 1994, and 1998, he was diagnosed with lymphoma. Back in the year 1999, a nodule was surgically removed from his neck and he underwent stem cell transplant therapy. His story about his experiences during that season is recorded in his book When Your World Falls Apart.
Asides from his career as a Pastor and leading Turning Point for God, he is an author and speaks frequently at conferences, universities, and conventions. This is in addition to speaking at the chapels for professional basketball and football teams.
David Jeremiah Turning Point
Back in the year 1982, he founded Turning Point for God, a multi-media broadcast ministry. Having the mission to deliver the unchanging Word of God to an ever-changing world, Turning Point’s radio and television program began with local influence. It later developed national influence through television by 2000 and has since become an international leader in the world of broadcast ministry.
In the course of his career as a minister, he has received numerous awards most especially with the Turning Point program. These include the National Religious Broadcasters(NRB) Hall of Fame Award and the NRB President’s Award in the year 2020.
