Kinchen is a political and general assignment reporter at Fox 29. He rejoined the station as a general assignment reporter in August 2021. Kinchen first joined Fox 29 News in October 2011. Previously he worked at the NBC affiliate in Flint, Michigan for four years as the market’s leading political reporter. During that time, he also covered general assignment stories and served as a weather forecaster.
In 2019, he left the newsroom to join the executive branch of the city government to serve the citizens of Philadelphia. While there, he was a Communications Manager for the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Cabinet. They include the Criminal Justice and Department of Prisons and the Offices of Violence Prevention. He wrote speeches and statements for Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney and the administration as his spokesman. Kinchen assisted in the development of the Office of Policy and Strategic Initiatives for Criminal Justice and Public Safety by preparing city council testimony and policy documents for senior administration officials.
Throughout his career, he has interviewed Ford Motor Company President Alan Mulally, then-presidential candidate Barack Obama, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. He also played guitar with legendary rocker Ted Nugent. Kinchen started his job at WXYZ-TV in Detroit while in college and worked as a staff writer and a production assistant.
He was working with the National League of Cities and the Michigan Municipal League where he gained policy experience prior to focusing on journalism. Kinchen attended Michigan State University to pursue Political Theory & Constitutional Democracy and journalism.
During his leisure time, he likes talking about classic rock, trying to write music, or playing guitar. In addition, he loves being in a podcast co-hosted by FOX29 Photojournalist Shane McEachern interviewing members of classic 70s and 80s bands on the “Rock of Nations with Dave Kinchen.”
