From 2008 to 2014, Johnston was partnered with play-by-play announcer Kenny Albert and on-field analyst Tony Siragusa at FOX, where he first worked with Dick Stockton. For the 2019 season, he most recently collaborated with play-by-play announcer Chris Myers and reporter Laura Okmin.

In January 2008, Johnston called the BCS Orange Bowl alongside Albert and Barry Alvarez, and in 2009, he was behind the microphone for the BCS Sugar Bowl between Alabama and Utah. Johnston joined the NFL Network as a studio analyst for “Total Access” in July 2010.

His other broadcasting credits include co-hosting “Inside the Huddle” on KDFW-TV with Craig James and “The Daryl Johnston Show” on KXAS-TV, as well as six years on “The Moose Call,” a weekly radio show on KRLD/KLIF in Dallas. Prior to joining CBS, Johnston honed his broadcasting skills in the booth during FOX’s coverage of the NFL Europe League season in 2000.

Johnston was a central member of the Cowboys’ three Super Bowl-winning teams since becoming a full-time starter in 1991. Johnston, a two-time Pro Bowl pick, appeared in 149 consecutive games, including postseasons, before suffering a career-threatening neck injury against Jacksonville on Oct. 19, 1997. He returned for all 16 games in 1998.

However, just one game into the 1999 season, neck injuries forced Johnston to miss the rest of the season. He had 294 catches for 2,227 yards and 14 touchdowns in his career, as well as 232, carries for 753 yards and eight touchdowns. In 1993, Johnston set a career-high with 50 catches.

Johnston was drafted in the second round in 1989 out of Syracuse University, where he was named All-American and All-Big East in 1988 while earning his bachelor’s degree in economics. Johnston lives in Dallas with his wife, Diane, and their twins, Aidan and Evan.
